A sad fairy tale of a Fall from Grace in the Kingdom of Google...

A long time ago, well, around 2002 I was using "reciprocal linking" with outstanding results. I had five home business sites all interlinked and the search engines loved me. I was their favourite subject....Not really, but you get what I mean.

It wasn't unusual to see two or three of my sites sharing the same top page on Google for highly competitive "work at home" terms. I had five different accounts with Linksmanager managing my different sites, sending me new link partners daily. I believed that there was no end to the heights I could reach, in terms of search engine rankings and the subsequent traffic that the top results produced.

Alas, a lot has changed since then......

The search engines soon cottoned on that wiley Internet Marketers like myself had automated the process, with the help of quality services of course, but automated no less. So in the space of a few weeks or months maybe, my sites lost the power through reciprocal linking that they once enjoyed and my rankings fell. I wasn't banned or banished to the nether regions of Google BUT, once you fall off the top two or three pages you might as well not be listed at all.

You see, Google likes to see "natural" linking activity, ie. a person visits your site, they like what they see, maybe see your site as a valuable resource and decide to add a link back. This is a "natural" process. When Google finds that the linkback is being reciprocated then they know that some sort of deal has been set up and the relevancy drops way down.

Today I am climbing back up the charts, so to speak using one way linking and I am happy to report that it is semi-automated and starting to produce the same kind of results that I used to acquire. There are a few of ways to get one way links:

1. The natural way, of which no one has control over - Visitors will find your site useful or not and decide to add a link back to you of their free will.

2. You can buy one way links - Many companies out there are brokers for website owners who sell a link on their site for a monthly or yearly fee.

3. You can set up a linking strategy with another webmaster to set up a link back structure, ie. he links to your site and rather than link straight back to the site he links from, you link to another one of his sites. So one way links are created and they look "natural". This is an effective strategy but too labourious for my liking.

4. Add your site to link directories - This is the most effective way from my experience, especially if you have automated or semi-automated the process. One way links from high quality directories will do more for your website ranking that any other single internet marketing method.

It's important when getting back links that you use different anchor texts. Using the same link text will look automated. Link backs from websites all using a variety of linking texts will look as natural as you can possibly expect.

In conclusion, the more natural you can make your linking strategy appear to be, the more you will benefit in the Search Engines. And as Google, Yahoo, and the other top dogs become more stringent in routing out automated processes, you may still have a chance of keeping one step ahead of the pack.

That said, there are NO guarantees in Google Kingdom.

There is a misconception that you can come online set up a web business and be making $1000s within days. Let be put that myth to rest right away. This has not been my experience nor the experience of anyone I have come in contact with through my online endeavours.



You need to give yourself at least a year to make an online business work and budget your money accordingly. Too many times I see people ploughing a wad of cash into their businesses and again, expecting instant riches.



New marketers also make the mistake of thinking that one marketing strategy will do. Of course some avenues will produce more than others but I have found the best way is to adapt a broad based approach to your online marketing. That means spreading your time and resources over several different methods.



I will attempt to outline in this text everything I feel you need to be doing consistently to make a success of your online business.



Again I MUST point out that you need to persist is this strategy and spend your money wisely. It amazes me the amount of people who drop out after the first month or two. What do they expect, miracles? You wouldn't ditch an offline business after a month so why would you expect an online enterprise to be any different?



If you fail to plan then you plan to fail.



Bottom line is, targeted visitors = sales. This is definitely a numbers game and obviously the more targeted visitors you send to your website the more money you make. The concept is simple but you need to maintain a healthy focus to ensure that you stick this out for as long as it takes to make a profit, and progress to financial freedom online.



Here are the methods I use to send daily visitors to my sites:



1)Build Your List



It's true what they say that the money IS in the list. Most successful online marketers have large lists of targeted prospects that they can send their offers to on a regular basis. Anyone new to this business should begin to build this list immediately.



You have to start somewhere and it takes time but it is certainly worth your while to begin now and develop a lasting and trustful relationship with those list members who eventually will feel comfortable in purchasing your recommendations. When trust grows this targeted list will become a virtual money tree and make you cash at will. Some marketers are able to makes $1000s sending an email to their list, which takes little more than a few minutes to write. Can you see the power in this method?



I use a couple of different methods, online forms at all my websites encouraging prospects to add their name and email addresses plus I also purchase many of my addresses from other companies that can send me 1000s of emails for affordable prices. These addresses are spam free and can grow my list a lot quicker than I could ever do from my own websites.

2)Pay Per Click search engines.



Over the years I have used PPCSEs to send 1000s of visitors to my sites. This is a fast track way to drive traffic to your sites. You can be up and running and getting hits in minutes.

3)Google Adwords (http://www.google.com/ads/)



Google adwords is similar in principle to PPCSEs in that you pay for your visitors. I suggest you use Wordtracker (http://www.workathomebiz.info/wordtracker.html) to accumlate 1000s of keyword phrases.



4)Article Submissions

5)Regular Search Engines



Yahoo, Google, and MSN send me as many visitors per day as any other strategy I use. It is highly recommended that you get started immediately to begin to build the online web presence of your website and thus your search engine rankings.

This has opened up more avenues and opportunities than any other strategy. I suggest you visit the popular, high traffic online forums daily and make it a point of sharing your experiences and giving your advice as often as possible. Get yourself seen!



The thing about this method too is that you can have a link pointing to your site in the signature of each post you make. Posting at forums will send daily traffic to your site AND the visitors will be highly targeted.

If you've seen Kevin Costner's film the "Field of Dreams" you will remember how he was inspired to build a baseball field with the words "If you build it, they will come". He built the stadium, and with a little faith, streams of visitors were coming to see his dream.

Sorry to bring you back to the REAL world but this isn't "Field of Dreams" and you aren't Kevin Costner. If you want visitors to your dream website and you want some measure of success online, you need to take some important steps to do so.

Without a regular supply of leads to your business then you just aren't going to make it in internet business, period.

How on earth could you? It would be like setting up an offline business and expecting it to succeed without anyone picking up the phone to call you or walking in through your companies' front door.

Makes sense doesn't it? Of course it does but the majority of prospects I deal with respond with shock horror when I tell them that now that they have set up their business websites they will have to buy leads or work hard to obtain them.

Leads are the lifeblood of your business and a highly targeted prospect can be worth $1000s, especially if you are involved in network marketing.

The way I see it, there are a few things you need to do to qualify leads and turn them into your customers or downline.

Firstly you need to obtain them, and as I can only share my own experiences, I will tell you what I do.

1) I buy leads - This is the simplest way to get leads and obviously will take the least amount of work to do this, because you are buying them from other sources and sending them to your business. These are usually raw leads, meaning they are people interested in starting an online business but not sure how to go about it nor with which company to proceed. It is up to you to convince them to use your product or service to do this.

2) I add them to my followup system - After buying leads you MUST add these prospects to some sort of followup system. This is basic stuff and if you don't do it you won't succeed.

There is absolutely no point in buying leads unless you followup with them. You COULD buy them and send them one email with a link to your business. A very small % will actually visit your site, what about the rest? Adding them to a followup system with at least twelve further messages will help turn your leads into HOT prospects. Some of my autoresponders have up to fifty message with articles, tips and recommendations.

3) I send targeted prospects to my business websites from the search engines - Many of my leads come from top rankings in the major search engines. A full e-book could be written on this alone but basically I set up a domain - obtained hosting - optimised my website with keywords related to my business - submitted my site to the major search engines - added quality home business related content and began a reciprocal linking campaign which boosts my sites web ranking more than anything else. The greatest thing about these leads is they are HIGHLY TARGETED and they are of course free.

Again I have set up a web form at my sites to encourage my search engine leads to add themselves to my followup system. I can then get to work on turning them into my customers and downline affiliates.

There are of course many other forms of sending customers to your website but the two above combined with an effective followup system can virtually put your business on autopilot and free up your time for other projects. They are also the most effective ways that I have found to reach a successful income.
